Working and Academic Meeting of the Department of Civil Law with the Editorial Board of the “European Review of Private Law”
On 25 April 2026, the Department of Civil Law headed by Prof. Dr habil. Ewa Bagińska hosted members of the Editorial Board of one of the most prestigious academic journals in the field of European and comparative private law – the “European Review of Private Law”, published by Wolters Kluwer / Kluwer Law International.
The academic meeting was attended by distinguished representatives of European private law and comparative law scholarship: Professor Barbara Pozzo of the University of Insubria in Como, Italy, member of the Accademia dei Lincei, holder of the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in Multicultural Society, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, President of the Italian Association of Comparative Law, and President of the European Law Faculties Association; Professor Walter Cairns of Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom; Professor Harriet Schelhaas, Professor of Private Law and Dean of Erasmus School of Law in Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Professor Jean-François Gerkens of the University of Liège, Belgium; Professor Adam Fuglinszky of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary; Professor André Janssen of Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and Wenlan Scholar at Zhongnan University in China; Professor Matthias Storme of the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, member of the Codification Team; and Florian Pollefeyt, doctoral researcher at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and Editorial Secretary of the “European Review of Private Law”.
The meeting was both working and academic in nature. The discussion focused on current research directions in European and comparative private law, publication opportunities, and prospects for involving members of the Department of Civil Law in international projects and academic networks.
The visit confirmed the significant potential for further international cooperation. Among the initiatives agreed upon was the organisation, in autumn 2026, of a conference at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk devoted to new codifications of private law in Europe, including the new Slovak Civil Code, with the participation of international speakers. It was also agreed that members of the Department of Civil Law would participate in several research projects, including two led by Professor Barbara Pozzo.
The exchange of experience with members of the Editorial Board of the “European Review of Private Law” proved highly inspiring and provided concrete impetus for further joint academic initiatives and the development of international research cooperation by the Department of Civil Law.
